FAQ

Questions we actually get asked

The questions that come up on nearly every festoon and event lighting enquiry, answered straight. If yours is not here, ask it through the enquiry form.

Where do you cover?

Auckland as standard. Beyond that we travel across the North Island for the right job. Travel is priced honestly: time, distance, and accommodation if the install needs an overnight stay. Tell us where the site is and we will give you a straight answer on what it adds.

Dry hire or installed, which one do I want?

Both work, for different jobs. Dry hire suits smaller sites, simple spans and people happy on a ladder: you collect the kit, hang it yourself, and return it afterwards. Designed and installed is the right call for larger sites, long or high spans, tricky anchor points, or a date where nothing is allowed to go wrong. We plan the layout, bring the power and rigging, install on the day, and pack it out when it is over.

Incandescent or LED?

We stock both. Incandescent festoons give the classic look: a warm filament glow with a softness LED still struggles to match, at the cost of more power draw and more care on long runs. LED sets run cooler, draw a fraction of the power, handle longer runs off a single feed, and put up with knocks. If the look matters most, go incandescent. If the site is big, the power is tight, or the run is long, LED is the sensible call. We will tell you straight which suits your site.

Do you do lighting other than festoons?

Yes. Festoons are the front door, not the whole kit list. We run coloured festoon sets, colour washes for trees and structures, marquee and dance floor lighting, and full outdoor event lighting up to festival scale. If it needs power and rigging outdoors after dark, it is our lane: the event lighting page covers the range.

What about power?

We handle it. Festoon runs add up faster than people expect, especially incandescent, and a domestic circuit only carries so much. We plan the load, bring proper power distribution, and advise on what the site needs before anything gets plugged in. No blown circuits halfway through the speeches.

Are they weatherproof?

The fittings we hire are IP rated for outdoor use. In practice that means rain, wind and an Auckland southerly are expected conditions, not emergencies. Connections are sealed, cable runs are planned so water cannot pool where it should not, and installed jobs are rigged to sit through weather overnight, not just to look right for the photos.

How far ahead should I book?

For summer weekends and wedding season, think months ahead rather than weeks. November through March books out first and long weekends go early. Off peak we can often turn an enquiry around inside a fortnight. If your date is close, ask anyway: gaps and date changes happen.

Is there a minimum spend?

Yes, and it moves with scale and travel. A dry hire weekend in Auckland has a lower bar than an installed job three hours away. Rather than publish a number that is wrong for half the enquiries, tell us your date, site and rough scale, and we will come back with a real figure.

That covers the common ones. Anything site specific, like a tricky anchor point or a long run back to power, is better answered against a real date and location, soput it in an enquiry and we will give you a proper answer.
